Shanghai is divided into two distinct parts: Puxi (meaning "west of the river") and Pudong ("east of the river"). Several bridges (such as the Nanpu Bridge, right) and tunnels connect the two sides. (This link takes you to an electronic map of Shanghai, in English or Chinese.)
Concordia is located in the thriving residential area of Pudong known as Jinqiao (This link takes you to an electronic map of Jinqiao). During business hours on a typical Monday to Friday, plan for the following drive times:
- 25 minutes from Lujiazui, Shanghai's financial center and home of the Pearl Tower and the Jinmao Tower (which houses the Grand Hyatt Hotel), both which flank the Huangpu River
- 40 minutes from Pudong International Airport, which services domestic and international flights
- 40 to 45 minutes from the Portman Ritz-Carlton, which comprises part of the Shanghai Centre (along the famous Nanjing Xi Lu - Nanjing West Road - in Puxi's center)
- 45 minutes to Huai Hai Lu (Huai Hai Road), which runs parallel to Nanjing Lu and is nearly as famous as a prime shopping district
- 45 to 50 minutes from Shanghai's Hongqiao region, on the western side of Puxi
- 50 to 60 minutes from the Hongqiao Airport, which services domestic flights
- 75 to 90 minutes from Minhang, on Shanghai's far western outskirts and home to the Shanghai Racquet Club, Forest Manor and SAS-Puxi.
Directions
By Car
If coming from the Pearl Tower area (Lu-jia-zui), you'll travel southeast on Century Avenue ("Shi-ji Da-dao"). Century Avenue ends at a giant sundial, at which you will turn east (left) on Yanggao Lu. You will drive along Yanggao Lu about 10 minutes before turning south (right) into Jinqiao on either Yunshan Lu or Hongfeng Lu. Reference the map above for further visuals.
When taking a taxi during the day, the flag falls at RMB11 and covers the first 3 kilometers. After 11 p.m., the initial rate rises to RMB14.
By Metro
For RMB3 to RMB9, the metro will bring you from most points of the city within a reasonable distance of Concordia. The metro is also a fun choice for Shanghai newcomers if your lodgings are near a metro stop and you don't require additional taxi transit time.
Option 1: Take Line 2 to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum ("Shanghai Ke-ji-guan") and turn toward the giant sundial upon exiting the station. You will find a taxi queue immediately upon exiting the pedestrian area. The taxi ride is about 15 minutes and will cost about RMB17.
If you miss the Science and Technology Museum station, you can also get off at the Century Park ("Shiji Gongyuan") station. The taxi fare to Concordia will be about the same.
Option 2: Take Line 6 to the Yunshan Road or Jinqiao Road stops. Allowing for stoplights, Concordia is about a 10-minute taxi ride from either stop. The taxi ride should cost RMB11 to RMB15.
